Young designers from around New Zealand take the runway for the only youth show at New Zealand Fashion Week 2018.

Walk the Line is dedicated to showcasing upcoming young designers at one of New Zealand’s iconic week of the year, New Zealand Fashion Week 2018.  The show is presented by YMCA Auckland’s youth programme, Raise Up.

YMCA Auckland is a not for profit organisation committed to connecting families, developing young people and making a difference in the community. Raise Up is a key programme of the organisation focussing on creating opportunities for young people and empowering them to make a positive change in their communities.

Since 2011, Walk the Line has continued to show its popularity during New Zealand Fashion Week as a consistent sell-out most years. As the only show led and driven by local youth, Walk the Line gives young designers the opportunity to display their garments on a world stage platform. It goes both ways, for youth involved in the Raise Up crew, they are solely responsible for the event management, production, promotion and sales of the show.

Walk the Line is one of the Raise Up programmes largest events which YMCA is excited to support and partner with New Zealand Fashion Week to make happen. Every year, designers from all around New Zealand submit their designs to the pre-judging sessions where over a hundred designs are then scaled back to 60 for show day.

The panel of judges are always of a high calibre and are key influencers in the fashion industry. Walk the Line winners have opportunities to gain scholarships at FashionTech, New Zealand’s leading educator in the fashion and sewn products industries. An award winning fashion and garment technology college, registered and accredited with the NZQA.

Previous contestants have gone on to pursue exciting and successful careers in the fashion industry which YMCA and Raise Up are over the moon with. You can check out past winners here.
